Education Diploma

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is an internationally recognised qualification for students aged 16 to 19. It is based around detailed academic study of a wide range of subjects, including languages, the arts, science, maths, history and geography. It leads to a single qualification, rather than separate qualifications for individual subjects. However if you don’t achieve the full diploma, you’ll be awarded a certificate for each subject taken.

The course prepares graduates for teaching in secondary schools and provides them with the opportunity to build on strengths developed in their undergraduate degree. Students must ensure that they qualify for two single methods or one double method. Eligibility for a single method usually requires two years of study in the discipline and for a double method three years of study in the discipline. Students complete 10 core units as well as a minimum of 45 days of satisfactory field placements in a variety of educational settings.

A bachelors degree (sometimes known as an ‘ordinary’ or ‘first’ degree) can lead to a qualification such as a bachelor of arts (BA), bachelor of science (BSc), or bachelor of medicine (MB). Depending on the subject you choose, it normally takes three or four years to complete full-time.
